A N I M A
This work serves a multifaceted purpose for me: I want to connect to and honor the animals and natural materials I work with, learn more about them and our relationship to one another. I feel called to tap into my primal, creative power with full freedom of exploration every time I work on a new piece, so I approach each skull design intuitively, rather than mapping out designs and colors beforehand.
In the beginning of this project, it quickly became clear that each piece is also a momento mori, a reminder that we all will die. I’m not just making art, or learning about animals and minerals: I am meditating on the cycles of life and death, on pieces of an unfolding journey. I am harnessing that raw and beautiful magic of creation and breathing it into my work, so that each piece holds power in its bones.
